Interview with J. B. Wootton, Jr. concerning his experiences as owner and operator of Denton Floor Covering Company, Inc. in Denton, Texas. Wootton discusses his family background, his work in gorcery stores in Denton during the 1930s, his employment as a salesman for Lone Star Gas Company in 1940, his work in Denton appliance and hardware stores, and being hired as a manager of Denton Floor Covering in 1955. He also comments on the history and the financing of the business, the growth of sales, the contrast in sales between linoleum and carpet, types of carpeting, and the expansion into janitorial supplies. Wootton shares his views on the marketing arena, personnel, business financing and competition in Denton, the use of advertising, business ethics, the development of a successful family business, and his civic activities.
